Because
ACR has no shelter facility, we rely upon a network of foster homes
to house our dogs until they are placed in permanent happy homes of their
own. Currently we have very limited foster resources and we are forced to
turn away needy dogs simply because we have nowhere to house
them.
The duty of a foster home is to provide love
and shelter as well as basic training and housebreaking if needed.
ACR pays for all food and medical expenses and maintains ongoing contact
and support with the foster home. We prefer that foster homes have a
fenced yard, but it's not mandatory. The foster
parent also needs to be able to bring their ACR pup to our Adopt a Pet
days the last Saturday of every month. The average time a dog is
fostered is several months however it could be as little as a few
days or as much as a year.
ACR only takes in dogs that are friendly,
companion animals. As rescue dogs, ACR pups have often been
neglected by previous owners, and rarely arrive impeccably trained.
They are very trainable however, they just need you to be their
teacher. If
they are tiny puppies, they need to learn everything! But whether
young or adult, ACR dogs are invariably loving, willing to please
and incredibly grateful. Fostering a rescue dog is a heartwarming,
experience you will never forget.
