Henry is the Wilt Chamberlain of Basset Hounds. He looks like a purebred Basset but his legs are really, really long - for a Bassett, that is, since he still only comes up to your knee. Henry is classic Basset in personality - he's easy-going, loves people without making a fool of himself about it, and is calm and friendly around other dogs. On our adopt a pet days, he sails through the throng of excited dogs like a ship of state on a smooth sea ;) As a hound, Henry is by nature a hunter so he is interested in chasing the resident cat in his foster home, but she isn't concerned because he doesn't have a prayer of catching her. This doesn't mean we consider him a good candidate for a home with cats though; they get him overexcited and then he starts barking - and Basset's have a voice that can be heard two counties over. When Henry was first found as a stray he was in pretty shabby shape, but he is looking absolutely beautiful now, trim and muscular at 64 pounds. Since Bassets are low to moderate energy dogs, it's easy to let a spoiled Basset get fat, so we are especially proud of Henry's impressive physique. We also just love those ears, and sometimes can't resist giving him an ear ponytail, which good-natured Henry takes in stride. Henry is a great companion who wags his tail like a happy helicopter whenever people talk to him and loves to be part of a family. He is a delight!
